True traditional Gesso artist panel
Our wooden panels are made with poplar plywood. Poplar is a fast growing tree, very lightweight and have among the lowest emissions of Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) that is inherent in all wood-based composites that can cause SID (Support Induced Discolouration).
We use:
6 and 9 mm for the smaller panels >F1-F3 & L1-L3
9 mm for the larger panels <F4-F5 & L4-L5
The poplar plywood is first sized with Rabbit Skin Glue and then coated 2X with our own formula of TRUE GESSO , containing only RSG+chalk+Titanium white pigment.
TRUE GESSO panels are very absorbent.
To temper the panel and control the absorbency:
-Apply varnish generously with a brush (tip: mix in some colour as your imprimatura eg. transparent red oxide), leave it for a minute.
-Wipe excess varnish off with a rag/paper towel.
-Leave to dry over night.
